Say NO to “Starting a Business”: The Myths of Entrepreneurship

Say No to starting a business image

Disclaimer: This may not be the article that you are looking for. But what I can tell you is, this is the truth about starting a business and become an entrepreneur, whether you like it or not. This is not for everyone.

First..

Let me ask you..

Why do you want to become an entrepreneur and starting a business?

Is it you saw an article about a young entrepreneur who managed to build his business empire at a young age?

Or you saw an article about an entrepreneur who launched a business and sold to the big company for a big fortune?

Or is someone told you that you have to start a business in order to make good money?

Yes, there are entrepreneurs who have great success in their business.

But…

Do you know that there are tens of thousands of business that failed and got shut down within 3 years?

And leaving themselves and their families in huge financial troubles, debts, and unhappiness.

Maybe you are not aware..

..because this is what media won’t tell you..

You saw one successful entrepreneur, but you don’t see the ten thousand that died.

Do you happen to see an article on the topic like:  “These 10 entrepreneurs launched their businesses and got shut down within a year, making them bankrupt and lost their house.”

No right..?

Because it’s not good to write about people’s failure and shown in the magazine.

It’s more likely for them to write an article about a successful entrepreneur who launched a multi-million sandwich shop.

The media love to promote entrepreneurship and starting a business, technically, there’s nothing wrong..

..But the problem is, most of the readers didn’t do their research and follow blindly, which lead them to the dead road.

Are You Ready for Entrepreneurship?

If you had done your research, you’ll notice that most of the business (~90%) failed within the first few years.

If you want to take the risk, chances are, you are likely to lose and join the majority.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not here to discourage you..

It’s easier for me to tell you “Don’t worry, go ahead, you can do it!”.

But the truth is the truth, and I want you to be realistic.

Overly optimistic won’t help you in your business, and most of the time, it destroys you in your business.

I love entrepreneurship and I strongly believe that starting a business is great.

But I want you to think twice before jumping on this entrepreneur bandwagon.

Ask yourself these questions:

Are you ready in term of capital?

Are you ready for no income for a period of 6 months?

And how about one year with negative income? More and more debts?

Are you ready emotionally?

Are you well prepared for the unforeseen challenges?

Are you mentally prepared to become an entrepreneur?

Do you have the ability to endure a pain over a long period of time?

Are you prepared for failure, pain, lonely, stress, struggling, sleepless nights, hopeless, helpless, disappointment, lost direction, and depressed?

Can you still moving forward when the whole world doesn’t think you can make it, the marketplace is against you, no people support you, and business got shut down?

Become an entrepreneur is not as easy as you thought..

..the road to becoming a successful entrepreneur will face a lot of challenges and obstacles.

But surprisingly, people are so optimistic when coming to business, and they think they can make it in 3 months, 6 months..

..and nobody actually thinks about what if they failed, what if the business doesn’t make money in the first year, the second year, the third year…

Something is good doesn’t mean it’s suitable for everyone, and I don’t think everyone shall become an entrepreneur.

Looking to Start a Business with No Money?

Don’t do that.

Do you know the worst time to start a business?

It’s when you have no money.

Also, if you have no money, you will become desperate, and desperate people hardly success in business.

So, it’s not a good idea to start a business with no money.

Because chances are, there’s a reason why you don’t have the money in the first place..

..it could be your skill is not good enough, you are lacking some knowledge, you don’t have enough experience, your mindset is not ready, or your ability to earn money is not strong enough.

And all these tell about who you are.

So, don’t start a business just because you want to make money.

Making money is great, but if you are struggling financially..

..it’s best to get a job, have some money in to pay your bill, and then start improving yourself during your spare time.

If you can’t even get a job and make some money, what makes you think that you can become successful in business?

Don’t listen to those gurus who told you that getting a job is for the loser and asked you to quit your job and join their “make money” program. Trust me, they don’t even care about whether you may fall into huge financial trouble, they just want your money.

You will put yourself and your family in a bad situation, don’t be irresponsible!

You get a job simply because that’s what you need to do at that moment. Period.

Get to the state where you are stable financially and prevent yourself from all things that can go wrong.

Once you improved your skill, mindset, and ability, you can now start your side hustle after working hours to gain more experience, network, and capital.

And when you are ready in term of skill, mindset, and ability to generate money, then only you consider starting your own business and become an entrepreneur.

At this point, even if your business is not going well, you are not afraid..

..because you already have the skill and ability to generate money for yourself.

And think about this..

What if you don’t have the fundamental and you failed in your business?

What You Really Want? Entrepreneur or Money?

If your goal to become an entrepreneur is just because of money..

If you think that becoming an entrepreneur is the only way make a lot of money..

Well, you are totally wrong.

The truth is, you don’t have to become an entrepreneur to make a lot of money.

You just need to have high income-generating skills.

For examples:

    • A great sports player can make a lot of money.
    • A great singer can make a lot of money.
    • A great programmer can make a lot of money.
    • A great designer can make a lot of money.
    • A great writer can make a lot of money.
    • A great personal trainer can make a lot of money.
  • and more..

Become great in your area, provides high value to the marketplace, and you’ll definitely make great money.

Conclusion

Don’t start a business when you are not ready.

Instead, commit yourself to improve your skill, mindset, and the ability to earn money first. Get a mentor to help you out if needed.

The amount of money you can make is determined by how much value you can deliver to the marketplace..

..because the money is just the byproduct of value given.

Think carefully and take full responsibility for your future.

Good luck.

  1. It’s great see someone telling the reality of things, instead of giving those optimistic expectations which get people into trouble!

  2. I wish I see this post earlier. I 100% agreed that starting a business is not easy as people think, it took a lot of efforts for me to reach where I am right now, but the journey is pain to look back.

Media always beautify the entrepreneurship without giving cautions, and that’s why so many entrepreneurs failed!
